About the Mesa Street Study

In an effort to improve mobility along one of El Paso’s busiest streets, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently initiated a study to look at possible improvements for Mesa Street from Doniphan Drive to Schuster Avenue.

This study was initiated for a variety of reasons including continuous growth of our population, increased development along the Mesa Street corridor, operational deficiencies in the existing transportation network, regional transportation demands, system continuity, and safety concerns.

TxDOT hopes to improve vehicular and pedestrian mobility and safety, as well as vehicular travel time and congestion by examining a wide-range of solutions for the Mesa Street corridor.

Some of the possible improvements under consideration include:
• Intersection Improvements
• Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
• Widening/Adding Capacity
• Access Management (managing driveways/medians)
• Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
• Drainage Improvements
• Illumination Improvements
• Pedestrian/Bicycle Facilities
• Aesthetic/Landscape Treatments

In order to develop options that make sense for everyone and address your needs and concerns, TxDOT is inviting the Mesa Street corridor community to a series of workshops. At the workshops, we will discuss problem areas along Mesa Street, learn about a range of possible solutions, and identify possible solutions for further evaluation.

These workshops will be held at various locations on January 31, 2006, February 1, 2006, and February 2, 2006. For more information, call the project hotline at 915-799-8764.
